Hall & Oates was included in this year’s nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 2014 nominees include The Paul Butterfield Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Peter Gabriel, KISS, LL Cool J, The Meters, Nirvana, N.W.A, The Replacements, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, Link Wray, YES, and The Zombies.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame provides information about each nominee on their website. Fans are encouraged to vote for up to five of their favorite band. KISS, Nirvana, and Deep Purple, are currently the top three nominees.
The fan favorites will be counted along with recommendations from artists, music industry executives, and historians.
As reported by Rolling Stone, this year’s nominees had to release their first album or single prior to 1989. The winners will be inducted during an April 2014 ceremony.
Hall & Oates is currently in 6th place, trailing Peter Gabriel by just over 100 votes.
Daryl Hall and John Oates were childhood friends. In 1972 the friends formed a successful musical duo. Throughout the next 10 years, the men released six number one songs, including “Rich Girl,” “Kiss on My list,” and “Maneater.” Within the same decade, they also have five Top 10 singles, including “Sara Smile,” and “Modern Love.”
The duo released six multi-platinum albums in the same era.
As reported by HallandOates.com, the duo also participated in “We Are the World” and Live Aid.
Although both men worked on individual projects, their most memorable work was performed together. In 1987 they were named Number-One Selling Duo in music history by the R.I.A.A. They have maintained the title for 26 years.
The duo recently compiled and released a box set titled Do What You Want, Be What You Are: The Music of Daryl Hall & John Oates. The set includes 74 tracks, 16 of which were previously unreleased.
For many fans, Hall & Oates represents the sound of the 80s. Daryl and John have maintained a strong presence in the music scene for nearly 40 years.
