Daryl Hall and John Oates were childhood friends. In 1972 the friends formed a successful musical duo. Throughout the next 10 years, the men released six number one songs, including “Rich Girl,” “Kiss on My list,” and “Maneater.” Within the same decade, they also have five Top 10 singles, including “Sara Smile,” and “Modern Love.”

The duo released six multi-platinum albums in the same era.

As reported by HallandOates.com, the duo also participated in “We Are the World” and Live Aid.

Although both men worked on individual projects, their most memorable work was performed together. In 1987 they were named Number-One Selling Duo in music history by the R.I.A.A. They have maintained the title for 26 years.

The duo recently compiled and released a box set titled Do What You Want, Be What You Are: The Music of Daryl Hall & John Oates. The set includes 74 tracks, 16 of which were previously unreleased.

For many fans, Hall & Oates represents the sound of the 80s. Daryl and John have maintained a strong presence in the music scene for nearly 40 years.
